🚢 KIDS CLUB ON IONA 🚢

💦 Splashers for 2-4 year olds.
🏄‍♂️ Surfers for 5-8 year olds.
🤿 Scubas for 9-12 year olds.
🎬 Scene for 13-17 year olds.

Times - The Kids Clubs times differ on sea and port days. Their times are between 10 and 10, with breaks for lunch and dinner.

Ages are strict, so your child is not able to go to an older or younger Club, even if they are turning a certain age within a few weeks.

The younger Kids Clubs are located on Deck 17 and the Scene is located down on Deck 6.

First up, our girls don't normally go to Kids Clubs on holidays. Our accommodation in previous years has been self-catering. We love campsites in Europe, and during our time at these, the girls have dipped their toes into the Kid's Clubs.

From the offset, this holiday was different. Whether it was because it was a cruise or whether our girls have got to the age (13 & 7) that they just don't want to spend every waking moment with us parents 🤣

Pre-cruise, our girls were really looking forward to going to the Kids Clubs everyday. Matilda (8) would be going to Surfers and Lily-Belle (13) would be the youngest for the Scene.

You are able to register your children for Kids Club 2 weeks before your cruise. I would definitely recommend this, especially if you are cruising during school holidays.

On arrival in our cabin, we received the details and timetable for the Kids Club, which would open the next morning. Both girls were excited to see what the Kids Club had in store, so it would be our first port of call after breakfast on our first day at sea.

If you haven't managed to register before boarding or need anything clarified on embarkation day, there is someone at Kids Club to help on embarkation day.

We were 100% aware that the clocks would change as we slept on our first evening, but of course totally forgot 🤣🤣 so the next morning was a bit of a rush to get the girls to their Clubs.
I think that it is so important for them to go on the first morning, so that they make a couple of little friends and don't feel left out.

WOW!!! What an epic Adventure on the Polar Explorer Icebreaker ❄️

Three adventures in one...

❄️ An Arctic Icebreaker Cruise! Watching and listening to the ice break as we ventured out to the open Ocean was amazing!

❄️ Walking on the Baltic Sea!! We literally parked up in the middle of the ocean, lowered the drawbridge, walked, ran and even kick-sledded across the ice!

❄️ Swimming in the -20 open waters of the Arctic Sea! Thankfully we were kitted out in our dry survival suits, staying toasty warm the whole time.

❤️ Every single Crew Member were so friendly and helpful. We felt extra lucky when one Crew Member brought us to the Hull of the boat for the most 'Amazing Pictures'! We never say that we are working with a company while we are documenting an experience as we always want to have a genuine experience, we were just the last getting back on the boat, typical of us, but sooooo worth it!!

📌 The Polar Explorer Icebreaker cruise is based just over the border in Sweden, but they offer a shuttle bus from Rovaniemi.

❄️ Everything you need to know about visiting

❄️ Make sure you save for future reference.

❄️ Children are allowed.

❄️ Saunas are mixed, so therefore there is no nakedness, remember your costume!

❄️ Book online in advance.

❄️ Opening times during the winter are 15:00 - 22:00.

❄️ Slots last for 2 hours.

❄️ Check the weather, and book for a day when the sun should be shining.

❄️ Book the 15:00 time slot to enjoy the sunset (February).

❄️ The Finnish enjoy a drink while in saunas, purchase your wine or beer at Reception.

❄️ Water is provided, drink plenty!

❄️ You just need to wear normal clothes, towels and lockers are provided.

❄️ Shower before entering the Sauna Complex.

❄️ There are 5 saunas, Ukko is the traditional sauna, and the hottest!

❄️ Heat rises, so for a cooler sauna experience sit on the lowest bench, the Finnish like them hot!!

❄️ After your sauna make your way down to Lake Jerisjarvi for a cooling dip.

❄️ Get the brave pants on, the cool (freezing cold) dip really is exhilarating!

❄️ There is a red rope to hold onto when entering the water and have someone with you.

❄️ You will feel instant pain in your legs, this is completely normal.

❄️Remember to breath and don't panic!

❄️ Don't be too brave, only stay in the water as long you can. If you are there after 20 minutes, you are dead!

❄️ After emerging from the water, go straight to a sauna, do not run!

❄️ Enjoy every minute of it!
