Travelling can be a tad stressful at the best of times, but add children into the equation and WW3 often ensues. Fights over who gets the window seat, squabbles about who’s sitting near Mummy, who’s sitting near Daddy…torture! Not to mention a headache for your fellow passengers! So how do you keep your ‘butter-wouldn’t-melt’ mini me’s in line on a flight? Well, there are ways and means of Entertaining Children On A Flight without the use of ropes and tasers!
ENTERTAINING CHILDREN ON A FLIGHT?
We’ve all been there….sat on a plane, ready for take-off and someone has given their child free reign. The little nipper is shouting, shoving the seat in front and basically being obnoxious and unruly! If the parents of said nipper aren’t prepared to keep them busy or under control, should airlines assist in Entertaining Children On A Flight? Personally, I’d welcome child-free zones on planes, or….a special place, similar to the cargo hold; where nippers can be caged for a few short hours…my own two children inclusive. But, in all fairness, our two girls are mostly (not always) very well behaved on flights. Maybe they could host a ‘flight etiquette’ seminar to teach other children how to behave during a flight?
PACK MINIMAL BUT PACK FOR FUN
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a Flybrary! Entertaining Children On A Flight is actually easier than it sounds. Whenever we fly, our children take a backpack filled with ‘things’ to keep them entertained on the flight. Books, colouring pages and pens, small toys, an ipad each (with headphones) with movies downloaded on to them, and a few sweets (to aid ear pressure). Enough to keep them occupied for the duration of the flight. Easyjet, the low-cost budget airline, have once again launched its summer library initiative, cleverly named ‘Flybrary’…cool name eh? The airline has stocked 300 aircraft with over 60,000 children’s reading books, that’s 200 books per plane. The books are available in seven languages (European) and you become the Flybrarian! Books are always a great way of Entertaining Children On A Flight, but there’s always the in-flight safety card if all else fails!
BECOME A BOOKWORM
How does it work? Multiple children’s books are placed in the middle seat pocket of each row of the plane. Children can select a book to read, or parents can read to young children during their flights in and around Europe. The ‘Flybrary’ is a joint partnership with Easyjet and Harper Collins, publishers of children’s story books. The ‘Flybrary’ is now in its third consecutive year, and new books are offered on flights each summer. For 2019 the titles added include: Dinosaur Juniors by Rob Biddulph, Mog and Bunny by Judith Kerr, Paddington Abroad by Michael Bond, The Boy Who Could Do What He Liked by David Baddiel, and Geek Girl by Holly Smale.
SHHHHH, YOU’RE IN A FLYBRARY
What an excellent idea the ‘Flybrary’ is and let’s hope other airlines follow suit. If the ‘Flybrary’ assists in Entertaining Children On A Fight, and keeps ‘unruly’ children in check for the flight duration, then it’s a winner-winner in my book……my book…pun intended!
