HALLOWEEN EVENTS FOR KIDS IN NORTHERN IRELAND 2019

Hallowe’en, All Hallows Eve, Beggars Night, Day of the Dead and All Saint’s Day are just a few of the names given to the Celebration and Superstition of this centuries old festival.  Many believe Hallowe’en links to Pagan ceremonies, others believe it’s a bit of harmless fun and a chance to dress up or play Trick or Treat, perfect for scaring the living daylights out of someone just for fun.  Whatever you think of Halloween, FOR or AGAINST, this is the guide for you if you want to take the little nippers to a spooky spectacular.  Here is our list of Halloween Events for Kids in Northern Ireland.

We have scoured the internet, poured lotions and potions into our cauldron and gazed into our crystal ball to bring you, what we think are, the TOP 18 Halloween Events For Kids in Northern Ireland.  We have done all of the hard work and taken away the hassle of looking for yourself…aren’t we good to you, oh yes we are!  So, without further ado, lets crack on with our TOP 18…we have listed them in order of County to make it easier for you to see what’s on in your local area; and here they are:

ANTRIM

1.  HALLOWEEN MONSTER MASH AND FIREWORKS – Titanic Quarter, Belfast

Date:  27th October 2019
Time:  16:00 – 19:00
Price:  free to all | suitable for all ages

Monster Mash is Belfast’s BIGGEST and BEST Halloween and Firework event.  Drop by the Titanic Quarters and celebrate the weird and wonderful this Halloween.

  • breathtaking shows of fire
  • street-theatre
  • live music

tip: firework display commences at 18:45 and lasts approximately 15 minutes.  wrap up warm and take a lightweight waterproof jacket.

2.  BOO AT THE ZOO – Belfast Zoo, Belfast

Date:  26th-27th October 2019
Time:  09:00 – 16:00 with last admission at 14:30

Plenty to do at Belfast Zoo this Halloween.  Trick or Treat your little monsters to a day of ghoulish fun with lots of spooktacular activities including:

  • freaky face painting
  • creepy crafts
  • terrifying talks from the keepers

3.  SPOOKED OUT AT V36 – V36 Adventure Playground, Newtownabbey

Date:  31st October 2019
Time:  18:00 – 20:00
Price:  free to all | suitable for all ages

Wear your scariest fancy dress costumer and prepare to be Spooked Out at V36!  There will be lots of tricks, treats and entertainment for you to enjoy including:

  • fancy dress competition
  • radio roadshow
  • face painting
  • halloween and fire performers
  • firework display (weather permitting)

ARMAGH

4.  HALLOWEEN CRAFTS AND GAMES CLUB – Palace Stables, Armagh

Date:  31st October – 1st November 2019
Time:  10:00 – 16:00
Price:  £14:00 for 1st child in family, £10.00 for any additional child.
Pre-booking is essential.  Book before 24th October & get 20% discount.

Cauldrons, creepy crafts and ghastly ghouls await you at the Palace Stables.

5.  HALLOWEEN FEST AT THE ARGORY – The Argory, Armagh

Date:  26th October – 1st November 2019
Time:  12:00 – 16:00
Gift Aid Price:  adults £6.00, children £2.50, family £14.50 and under 5’s are free

The half-term holidays are nearly upon us and we have lots to keep the children (big and small) entertained this Halloween.  Dust off your broomsticks and capes.  Visit The Argory this Halloween for a spooky week of frighteningly good fun!

6.  LITTLE SPOOKS – Navan Centre and Fort, Armagh

Date:  26th October – 1st November 2019
Time:  slots available from 12:00 until 16:30 (time depends on the date of visit)
Price:  adults and children aged 4-16 £7.50, Aged 3 and under are free

Enjoy a perfect Halloween experience.  Great for boys and girls who aren’t afraid of enjoying some ghastly ghouls and spooky surprises!  Walk  along the winding path to the witches lair.  Discover what nasty ingredients go into a bubbling cauldron.  Will you be brave enough to sample a truly gruesome brew freshly prepared with eye of newt and wing of bat, just for you!

tip: event recommended for ages 4 – 9.  Under 3’s still require a ticket even though they are free, and each show lasts around 1h 20m.

DERRY/LONDONDERRY

7.  AWAKENING THE WALLS – Derry/Londonderry

Date:  28th – 30th October 2019
Time:  18:00 – 20:30
Price:  free to all | suitable for all ages

Be careful what you wish for, for you are among warlocks and witches, your screams will not be heard.  Celebrate all things supernatural as you walk a trail around the City Walls.

tip: as there are some steps on the trail, provision will be made for disabled access.

8.  FIELD OF SCREAMS – Carrowmena Activity Centre, Limavady

Date:  25th – 30th October 2019
Time:  30 minute time slots available between 19:30 – 21:30
Price:  £9.00 per person
Age:  recommended for 14+ years only

Visit Carrowmena Activity Centre for a screamingly scary HALLOWEEN night to remember but one that you’ll want to forget!  The Field of Screams is horrific, blood curdling and definitely not for the faint hearted!

tip:  Expect to get mucky (adds to the fun factor!)  Wear suitable shoes and a change of shoes/clothing is advisable.  Showers & changing facilities onsite and will be opened for the halloween nights.

9.  HALLOWEEN STREET CARNIVAL PARADE – Derry/Londonderry

Date:  31st October 2019
Time:  19:00
Price:  free to all | suitable for all ages

Street performers from around the world descend on the Walled City for a night of illuminated spectacle like no other.  A fangtastic carnival atmosphere with frightening floats and fearless fiends.

tip: arrive early, the parade is extremely popular and gets very busy, and be sure to stay and watch the spectacular fireworks which commence at 20:15 along the river bank.

DOWN

10:  HALLOWEEN FAMILY DAY – The Ulster Folk & Transport Museum, Cultra

Date:  31st October 2019
Time:  10:00 – 16:00
Price:  Child under 5 free, Child £5.50, Adult £9.00 – concessions available, full pricing.

Frighteningly fun-filled day of creepy crafts and traditional games which is suitable for children of all ages.  Learn all about the traditions  of Halloween and listen to spooky stories behind centuries-old traditions; such as apple bobbing and carving turnips to keep evil spirits at bay.  Kids, dress in your scariest Halloween costume and get in for free!

PUMPKINFEST AT CASTLEWARD – Castleward, Strangford

Date:  26th October 2019
Time:  11:00 – 16:00
Gift Aid Price:  adult £10.50, children £5.25, family ticket £26.25

If scooping out brains isn’t for you, have a go at pumpkin carving instead.  Pick your pumpkin, create a scarily artistic design, then sit back and feel proud of your creation.

tip: take a camera to capture the wonderful autumn colours around the estate.  Dogs are welcome and must be kept on a lead.

12.  SPELLBOUND FESTIVAL – WWT, Castle Espie Wetland Centre

Date:  29th -31st October 2019
Time:  slots available from 12:00 until 16:00 (time depends on the date of visit)
Price:  children age 4-16 £4.17, under 4’s are free, adult £7.52 plus concessions are available

Enjoy a frightfully fun discovery day at Castle Espie this Halloween.  There will also be Broomstick Flight Training.

Brand new for 2018, on’t miss the NEW ghoulishly gruesome Nauseating Nature trail throughout half term and learn about the dark side of the natural world.  You can also experience the spooky side of Castle Espie’s Wetland Wildlife.

FERMANAGH

13.  HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR – Marble Arch Caves, Enniskillen

Date:  26th – 27th October 2019
Time:  tours last 75 minutes and are available between 10:00 – 16:00
Price:  children £7.00, adults £11.00 and family (2a + 2c) £26.00

Take a spooky special Halloween tour with a spine-tingling twist to scare you witless!  This underground tour promises to be a nail-biting and hair-raising Halloween experience.  Bring along your family and friends and join in the fun on a spooky adventure which is sure to be one you’ll never forget.

Perfect for your little howlers, come and enjoy a huge variety of family activities this Halloween.  Including traditional games, zombie combat run and a how-how-hooowl lot more!

A great family event with lots of ghostly activities on offer.  You will need your wits about you if you want to avoid being captured by the witch.  Come along and enjoy a fun filled family afternoon!

16.  TODDS LEAP HORROR NIGHTS – Todds Leap Activity Centre, Ballygawley

Hellish scare zones, dark and narrow alleyways and noises to disorientate the living and rouse the dead…will you figure a way to GET OUT?

In the dark and dreary outskirts of Lanavoye, make your way through the scary horror maze and discover the dilapidated creaking Wake house of the recently deceased Undertaker, Aloysius Pollock, and discover the dark past of this sinister and terrifying character.

Unearth a host of spooky characters rising from the rural landscape as you follow the eerie trail through the district. From Castlederg to Bready, Strabane to Newtonstewart, catch sightings of scary witches, creepy spiders and weird aliens created by our young farmers and community groups.

Celebrate an authentic Halloween at Ulster American Folk Park.  Discover how pumpkin carving, fancy dress and trick-or-treating began through craft making, storytelling and barn dancing.  Get creative and carve your very own Jack O’Lantern.  A week of fun frights and fear for the whole family.  Celebrate Halloween with an array of fang-tastic traditional games and spooky activities.
